New Year's Resolutions!

I know everybody is going on and on about the New Year and all the resolutions they are making.. I'm REALLY bad about that kind of stuff.

Like, I stink.

Then I was flipping through the comics this morning... (okay, not really flipping. I'll admit it- I read them every morning) and came across this Rose is Rose.

And while I'm not a born rebel, playing rebellion is really fun.
Like when I was hiking with my friends...

Ab waving at a security camera.

Me.. pretending to smoke a stick.

Me... smiling and pointing at a Private Property sign?

Don't worry.
I would never actually allow my friends and I to really do things like that... we weren't on private property (although we had some old people yell at us with their fists raised- no joke), I wasn't smoking (duh), and Ab was waving at a camera that makes sure people don't litter.

I'm not really sure what my point was supposed to be... be fake-rebellious? Don't make resolutions? Either way, have an amazing New Year's!

Welcome, 2010!

Free Falling

This morning I went hiking with "the group".
Like most things that we do with the group- the hike did NOT go as planned. In a good way.
Instead of hiking and sweating a bunch, we just hiked and sweated a little. And we mainly took pictures. Darn awesome ones at that!

Since I want to sound like a stuck-up art museum freak, I shall name this set of pictures "Falling 1-9" (there are a LOT more pictures after these!).. and we can go from there!

Falling 1*
Allison falling off a cliff. Not her finest moment, seeing as her butt muscles contract awkwardly while she jumps.. she's seen better photo days. However, her yellow sweater contrasts nicely with the (drabber) green of the town. That would be one painful belly flop.

Falling 2*
Ab falling off a cliff in true falling style. It's a pity his hair is not standing straight up, but it's understandable, seeing as he's JUST jumped, and not has been falling for a while...

Falling 3*
Darian is pro. That is all.
Falling 4*
Oh, Gavin. I will commend you for how HIGH you can jump, however, form is not your best attribute. You look as though you are swimming in water and do not know which way is up.

Falling 5*
OH, Karina. This is said with a bigger sigh than Gavin's. For although you were able to jump off the hill, you managed to delete the picture of it, and instead only have the shot of you about to propel yourself. Oh, Karina.

Falling 6*
This picture shows how true of friends Karina and Allison are- they are willing to jump off hills together.

Falling 7*
It is true every girl's dream is to be a ballerina when she grows up... unfortunately, that was not what Karina and Allison were going for. They were pretending to be eyes.
Falling 8*
It's like High School Musical all over again! Except backwards. And jumping off a cliff.

Falling 9*
Um.. 'nuff said.

Do not attempt at home! These were not actual shots of jumping-off-cliffs. Suicide is not condoned.

De-Stresser Fact 395

Holidays are so fun- but they bring on so much stress as well!
I was thinking to myself... that makes NO sense, holidays are supposed to be a time for relaxing, not for stressing!

I know I do not have the power to de-stress every one of you.

But I can try.

De-Stresser Fact #395:
Clif bars, when properly molded, look like feces. That is, poo.

Christmas is Here to Stay!

I know the time for Christmas music and celebration has sadly passed us by.
HOWEVER, if your family is anything like mine, your tree will still be up until at least New Year's, and while the radios stopped playing those carols that we know and love, you will still listen to them in secret.

Okay, maybe that last one is just me.

BUT- I know that everyone loves Christmas music, and what better time to listen to it than the week after Christmas? (hold that sarcastic laughter)
I'm serious.

Now, while I was having a blast at my Grandpa's for Christmas (no pictures yet!) I was busy listening to "The Ultimate Christmas Album" over and over and over.
You see, I just LOVE that kind of music.

Yes, I like the occasional Mariah Carey and Alvin and the Chipmunks, but the songs on this album are CLASSIC.
Like, 50s doo-wop classic.
And if you know me, that's all it takes for me to listen to something NONSTOP.

Here are some of my MOST favorite non-radio hits.

You're My Christmas Present- Jimmy Beaumont & the Skyliners
Christmas Just Ain't Christmas (Without the One you Love)- the O'Jays
Another Lonely New Year's Eve- Jimmy Beaumont & the Skyliners
Christmas Serenade- Johnny Maestro & the Brooklyn Bridge
This Time of Year- Brook Benton

Have Yourself...

... a merry little Christmas.

I can't believe another year has passed (almost) and again we're celebrating this special day. I've had 16 of these special days in my life, and each year it seems like Christmas is getting more and more media-related, rather than spiritual-related.

And that's sad.

I mean, I love me some presents, but when the whole point of Christmas is lost, the whole point being Jesus coming to earth as a baby human boy to eventually grow up and die for ALL of our sins, I see no joy in Christmas. Because God's everlasting love and mercy is (should be) the reason for joy.

I wish I could be more eloquent about this, but I'm hoping that my point was made (however crudely).

So please, enjoy your Christmases with your family and loved ones-
because Christmas is about joy and togetherness and love and faith and new beginnings and hope.

I wish you all a wonderful time!

Merry Christmas.

Home Away from Home

SUCH a cliché saying.. but this hotel was just so homey that it fits- I would never leave my home for this hotel, but.. okay. You get what I'm trying to say.

Reasons why Tahoe's Hyatt is amazing:

1. Um. It's beautiful.
Dude. Look at that. The chandeliers, and rows of couches and little nooks for reading and fireplaces... very lodge-like. Love it.

2. Our room had a view.

Seriously, how many rooms have nice views? And at affordable prices? WONDERFUL. We usually get the parking lot windows, and stuff like that. Here, we got a view of the snowy slopes.

3. There is a massive gingerbread house in the lobby.
And I thought that MY gingerbread house was nice. This baby is HUUUGE. Like, a mansion house. Crazy.

4. It has heat lamps in the entryway.
They glow red and warm, and when you've just come back from a full day of skiing and it's still freezing outside, it's like curling up by a fire. SOO nice.

5. It has an amazing letter holder.
And yes, that's of course the SELLER for this hotel :D Dude. Just LOOK at that huge pine cone. It's like, 3x the size of my head. Not that my head is big or anything...

Ductigami and Friends.

I am a freak.
In a good way, I think- because my freakiness induced me to make the CHEESIEST most WANNABE GANGSTA thing ever.

The duct tape wallet.
Oh yeah, baby.

I'm just SO cool that my wallet is hot pink. Because pink is the only way to go.

And it opens (duh) and has FOUR pockets for my cards! Amazingness. You should have seen me making this. My wannabe gangsta side and my OCD freak/perfectionist side were totally duking it out over the neatness of the card pockets. OCD freak won.

And it even has a place for da money!

If anyone is still doubting my coolness... check out my shirt. Yeah. It's Friends.

I Heart Yogurt

Yesterday after school was out for winter break, the wonderful mother of 2 of my piano students (and Karina's aunt) took our group out to I ♥ Yogurt for a little stress reliever and post-concert dessert! (I had an orchestra concert a week ago)
Oh, the fun that ensued!

Elika and her two best friends goofing off while eating froyo. They were super cute, and we talked the whole trip about crashing Kevin Jonas' wedding this Saturday. Oh yeah. :D

Ab ordered a medium (which is actually a LOT a LOT) and the guy accidentally put in the wrong flavor. SO- Ab got 2 medium swirls for the price of one! And he finished it all.
MAN- I will never understand this boy. First the burger, now this....

Yes.. I make weird faces sometimes. Like, awkwardly ugly faces.. but that's okay. What I am holding in my hand is THE coolest (if not slightly gross) thing in the dessert world. They're called Carob Chips (like Chocolate Chips) and they look JUST like chocolate chips... except they taste like hardened bubbles from pearl/bubble tea. Yeah. Delicious.

Where do you go to celebrate?

Scream and Shout!

School's out! Scream and Shout!

I'm sorry, please ignore my HSM2 reference- I'm a bit ecstatic right now, and when that happens, no one knows what I could say... :D

FINALLY.. Finals are over. And I did not die. Or pass out. Or throw up.

My Childish Christmas List

"No more lives torn apart,
That wars would never start,
And time would heal the heart.
And everyone would have a friend,
And right would always win,
And love would never end...
(oooh ooh)
This is my grown up Christmas list"
- My Grown Up Christmas List

(Did you know that used to be my brother's favorite Christmas song? SHH!! Don't tell him I told you so, because it's kind of embarrassing.. he would sing NONSTOP to it- and not even the Micheal Buble version, oh no. The Kelly Clarkson one. Yeah.)

Well, even though I DO wish for those things (no more wars, love, friends), I can be a child sometimes. And if grown up lists consist of "righteous" wishes, then it only makes sense that child lists consist of "vain, materialistic" wishes...
I hate to say it. But I can be a child sometimes.

1. The Perfect Burger Tee
I think this shirt from dressingOnTheSide's etsy shop is absolutely adorable. I would order it in a small, and wear it to those late night In-N-Out trysts with my friends. It would be awesome.

2. "Lip Bliss" Lip gloss
Now this one is just a ridiculous want. But a
very beautiful ridiculous want, let me tell you. And seriously? If I were in a bargaining mood, I would tell you all about how these were made by three virtuous mothers "who believe beauty starts from within. We want to remind women of the simple and virtuous things in life." I especially love the WISDOM, SIMPLICITY, and DEVOTION colors.. and also how they reflect good virtues, and not bad messages that are shown on beauty supplies these days.

3. Modcloth Dresses
Seriously. Why have I just started looking at Modcloth recently? Because their clothes are gorgeous- and totally in vintage styles- if you know me, that's a plus.
Some of my favorites are:

The "Soda Fountain Dress in Grape" (Medium) - because it's a 50's inspired style, and really flattering to any body size with a fitted top, and flared skirt. SO cute.

The "Impressionists Wing Dress" (Small) - I love the lace detail at the top, as well as the "faux-sweetheart" neckline. The fact that there are pockets- SELLS it. :D

The "Bouquet Bonanza Dress" (Small) - This is a simple but cute dress that really makes me think of... old movies. I would name some, but I'd probably be way off the time period, and then people would laugh at me. So- oldness.

So there's my "Childish Christmas List".
What gifts are you hoping for this holiday season?

Pretzels to Pattinson

Now that I look back at it, the pretzel doesn't look HALF as droopy as it did at lunch today before I ate it.
Perhaps it's the angle of the picture. Or the fact that the camera on my phone refuses to focus on the object I want to, instead making the background beautifully clear...

WELL.. back at lunch when I ate this pretzel, it reminded me of a Salvador Dali watch...

from his painting "The Persistence of Memory".

Which then led me to think of Robert Pattinson and his ridiculous mustache as Salvador Dali in the movie "Little Ashes" (which, by the way, I did not watch)

Which then made me think of Robert Pattinson as Edward in "Twilight" (which I DID watch)

What a strange tangent to go on.
Yes, that is how my crazy mind works.

Why, Hello Taylor!

In any other circumstance I would LOVE to see you...
just not through the Burger King window. I mean, I love me some fries, but if you're gonna be coveting them with your eyes and creepin' them through the window... I'm gonna have to say no.
Seriously. You can just come around and use the door, and I'd be HAPPY to share.

And what's up with this? I have to say, I didn't wear these crowns before the New Moon pics were on them...

... and with Kristen looking all exorcist-like, I am certain to not wear them now.

PLUS- I would feel uncomfortable taking one. It's telling me to "SWIPE" the crown, and that makes me think "steal". I'm sorry, I like to wait 'till someone offers me something before I take it.

Alright, 'fess up... how many people have worn these crowns?
(And don't worry, I won't hate!)

It's Beginning to Look...

...a lot like Christmas!

I did not let you guys down. Here are the [much awaited :D] pictures of our family's Christmas tree, fully decorated. (plus other Christmas decorated goodies!)

While our family's tree may not EVER be put in "Better Homes and Gardens" magazine for beautifulness, I love it! Not all the ornaments match (in fact, none of them do!) but I think it personalizes our tree- every decoration has some story behind it. ♥

Cutie teddy bears in Winter Love.

Our stockings! Since we actually spend Christmas at my Grandpa's house, these stockings are strictly for show. They're made from tapestry... and I have an embarrassing story to tell about them.
When I was little, I would find a whole bunch of trinkets around my room and hide them in my stocking JUST before we got in the car to my Grandpa's house. Then, when we came back from the weekend (or however long we spent there) I would rush to my stocking, and tell Mathew that I got things from Santa and he didn't! I was a horrible sister.

A different view of our mantle. In addition to stockings, we also have the cutest little winter village town-house type buildings that we put around the house. There's a toy shop, a little church.. they're stinkin' cute.

Our Nativity scene. We wrap each individual piece (as they're made of wood and EXTREMELY delicate) and this year, while unwrapping each man/animal, we got to the bottom of the box... and realized baby Jesus was not there.
Thankfully, we found him nestled in some tissue paper that we had already "sorted through". It was a Christmas miracle!

And how can we do Christmas without little Santa salt and pepper shakers?

What's your favorite Christmas decoration?

Woe is Me.

I am in utter allergy hell.
(I am also feeling extremely melodramatic, so forgive me whilst I rant and rant about the horriblenesses of allergies.)
I have such a stereotypical allergy that it almost embarrasses me to say it! I bet you 90% of the people allergic to something are allergic to animal fur. And so am I.
Cats, to be specific.
I just came back from a dinner party, and even though the cats were locked up in a room, the infinite number of hairs that they shed all over the house acted like silent killers to my nose, effectively rendering my breathing capabilities to ugly congested sniffs.

It REALLY stinks. (And when I say that, I wish I could actually smell it. Because smelling something bad would be better than not even being able to breathe)

I think the worst part about having this allergy is that I actually really like cats. Like, how sick is that? I either get to choose to not play with them, which makes me sad, and also usually still makes my sinuses act up... or DO play with them, in which my sinuses just shut down altogether (and when I say that, I am actually exaggerating for the sake of a story)

Do you have a [health] problem that bugs the bejeebes out of you?

A couple of days ago, the wonderful Linnykins of Randomness tagged me in this "I love me meme/award".
This is probably going to be a HARD post for me to write (because how long will it take to come up with 10 things I "love" about myself?), but let's get going!

10 reasons why I, Allison, love myself.

1. I ♥ that I'm a perfectionist. Is that weird? Because- even when I procrastinate, I won't stop working until the [project] meets my standards. Even if that costs me a couple of hours. At least I know that I'll like the finished product.

2. I ♥ my hair. Yes, I can be vain- but my hair is nice and thick, and I'm hoping that in 50 years, when I've lost half of it, I'll still have a pretty full head.

3. I ♥ that I love kids. Slightly creepy sounding, yes, but there are some people that absolutely HATE kids.. and it's like C'MON. I can understand disliking animals or something, but everyone was a kid once. You can't HATE kids.

4. I ♥ that I'm musically gifted. I'm no prodigy, but I believe that I at least have a shred of talent that people can enjoy- and that's why I play. So that I can enjoy myself, and others can enjoy it too, if they please.

5. I ♥ that I'm a noob. (If you don't know what a noob is, don't ask me, because I don't know the definition.. just say the word, and the feeling you get from the word is what it means.) I can listen to a conversation for half an hour, and still not understand what people are talking about.. and sometimes I can be so deep, that even I don't understand what I'm talking about. It's just silly.

6. I ♥ that I can be smart. Not just intelligent- smart (because there are many days when I lack in that category) but life- smart. I'm not like most the high school population that do illegal things, and think it's hilarious to post pictures of them doing said things on Facebook. I think a little bit.

7. (WOW, 10 points is long) I ♥ that I love to read. Most people my age grumble about having to read books in class, but I devour them. (That is, literature. NOT textbooks)

8. I ♥ that I have this blog. I have met SO MANY wonderful people through it, and now can proudly say that I have more friends that I had just 2 months ago, all through here.

9. I ♥ that I was born with good eyesight. I know that may sound like the lamest statement ever, but I just cannot imagine viewing life through different eyes than my own, and I think I would just about cry if things I saw were blurry. I like taking mental pictures.

10. (finally!) I ♥ that I love music. Yes, it's really similar to my "musically gifted love" or whatever, but I really just don't understand people who are narrow minded about music. To me, music is something I can always come to, no matter my mood, and be cheered, or think, or cry.
It's just amazingly powerful.

After that last statement... it's time to give out the lovebug!
(and this time, I'm gonna try to get some fresh faces up here)

Oh, Christmas Tree!

Just like everyone else's house, our house is starting to get Christmas-ified.. and I love it!
Just this Saturday, we went out to Home Depot (yeah, we're cool.) to pick out a tree, and oh, the fun that ensued! :D

Our beautiful living room right before the tree was picked. Yes, it looks incredibly cluttered- it's because we had to move our piano bookshelf, and in order to do that, we had to take out all the books.
(You can see the empty black case in the back corner of the room)

The empty tree-holder, just waiting patiently in the living room for its new friend!

Just in case you were wondering, it was, like, 40 degrees outside. And yes, Mathew is wearing shorts and no jacket in the tree lot of Home Depot. Psh.. Boys.

I'm just gonna call this guy "the tree bagger" because that's essentially what he did- pick up the tree and "bag" it with a net! He may not seem like much in the grand scheme of things, but as I was taking this picture, he jokingly made me promise not to put him on Youtube.
Well, Mr. Tree Bagger- I kept my promise.

Somehow, we got the tree to fit in our van. Which was great, because it was freezing outside, and it usually takes 5+ minutes to tie the tree to the top of the car.

I hate to do this to you- but I have no pictures of the tree inside our house.
I know, I know, I could just get up off my chair, walk over to the living room, and take a picture- but it's not FULLY decorated, and I don't want to spoil anything for you!

Do you have your tree up already?
